The Kö-Bogen designed by star architect Daniel Libeskind is home to a spectacular flagship store of the Californian tech company. Users can order a device online and pick it up on the same day. Today-at-Apple programmes take place regularly. Customers can take part in interactive “Today at Apple” sessions free of charge.
Bauhaus
Kettwiger Str. 69, 40233 Düsseldorf
At the three Düsseldorf locations in Flingern, Gerresheim and Reisholz, the DIY chain is using a total of 16 CI-10 cash recycling systems from Glory’s Cashfinity range in the respective main checkout zones. As is customary at Bauhaus throughout Germany, the locations offer an area for the “Reserve & Collect” online service.
Coolblue
Schadowstraße 42-52, KII, 40212 Düsseldorf
The Dutch online electronics retailer’s first physical store in Germany offers electronic devices, laptops, televisions and washing machines on 2,600 square metres of retail space. Product selection is assisted by “guide walls” that list what customers should look out for when buying a new television, for example. The ESLs in the shop can recognise how many customers have stood in front of a product. Click & Collect is also offered.
dm-Drogeriemarkt
Friedrichstraße 13-15 Düsseldorf
In the recently modernised dm store in Friedrichstraße, which has a new store design, customers can use two self-checkout terminals and a large pick-up station for goods ordered online or via the dm app. The drugstore chain also operates two shops with an SCO area in Cologne, at Neumarkt 35-37 and Hohe Straße 73-75.
Douglas Flagship-Store
Joachim-Erwin-Platz 1, 40212 Düsseldorf
It’s not just the young design concept that makes the cosmetics chain’s flagship store, which will open in 2023, special. In combination with the online shop, digital features and services are intended to offer a seamless, cross-channel shopping experience. For example, there is a beauty mirror that uses augmented reality to bring make-up to life virtually. Customers can pick up online orders via Click & Collect, charge their smartphone at charging stations and take photos at selfie stations.

The traditional company’s store concept combines the strengths of the online shop and analogue product presence in an atmospheric showroom. The approx. 220 sqm shop is designed to provide a physical experience of the products from the online range of around 25,000 items. Customers can use touchscreens to find out about products themselves via the Foto Koch web platform.
Rossmann

As in five other shops in Cologne, the drugstore chain offers its customers a self-checkout solution at the Schadowstraße location in the city centre. In January, Rossmann launched the new version of its in-house app, which allows users to add their desired products to their digital shopping basket and order them in-store or check their availability on site.
Sevens Home of Saturn
Königsallee 56, 40212 Düsseldorf
A 1.2-tonne LED globe welcomes customers as they enter the Sevens Home of Saturn shopping centre. With a diameter of three metres and fitted with 400,000 LEDs, it serves as a 25 sqm advertising space for the shopping centre. It originally came from the German pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

Decathlon

The French sporting goods group has expanded its store in Cologne-Marsdorf to double its previous space, making it the largest branch in Germany and adding new test and training areas for various sports. RFID technology is used here for goods registration and self-checkout. An 18-hole golf simulator is also available for the first time, where customers can practise their tee shots virtually.
Hunkemöller

A large glass façade provides a view into the Hunkemöller flagship, which extends over three floors with a sales area of 465 sqm. All changing rooms are equipped with bells that can be used to call staff for advice. The shop also has an “experience changing room” where customers can try out different lighting scenarios. Music can be played on request via a touchscreen.
Levi’s Store

In the Levi’s store, fitting screens on the shelves help customers to choose the right trousers. In addition to product information, short videos show how the trousers look when worn. Customers can personalise their own T-shirt at a “print bar”. They can visualise different designs via a touchscreen interface.
Mediamarkt

The Mediamarkt shop in Kerpen near Cologne offers two experience zones where customers can experience and try out technology up close. The two experience zones focus on the topics of gaming and household.
Obi
Im Gewerbegebiet Pesch 4, 50767 Köln
The DIY chain Obi operates 27 stores in the Cologne/Düsseldorf area with a total of 93 self-checkout terminals, most of which are at the Obi store in Cologne-Pesch with 5 SCO terminals. The “heyOBI” app also offers features such as a store navigation system that helps users to find their desired products in the store more quickly, as well as the option of having a digital copy of the receipt sent to the app.
Rewe Pick & Go
Luxemburger Str. 150, 50937 Köln
The store on Luxemburger Strasse is currently Rewe’s largest Pick & Go location in Germany, with a floor space of around 600 sqm. The food retailer plans to open further locations in Düsseldorf and Hamburg in the near future. The system registers customers with a consecutive number when they enter, biometric data is not stored. Purchases are tracked and analysed using camera and sensor technology. The removal of goods is recognised via weight sensors attached to the shelf. After payment via Paypal, Google Pay, Apple Pay or credit card, the receipt is digitised in the app.
Uniqlo

With a total sales area of 2,214 sqm, the Japanese clothing retailer Uniqlo operates the second largest store in Germany in a glass building in the pedestrian zone in Cologne. Large screens support the presentation of goods. Click & Collect is also possible. Payment can only be made non-cash with all bank cards as well as Paypal, Klarna, Apple and Google Pay.
Zara

The Cologne branch of the Spanish fashion chain provides a view of 3,000 square metres of sales space through a huge glass façade. 15 metre long displays mark the checkout areas on all levels. Current campaign videos and the latest collection items are shown.
